Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is the highly anticipated remake of a beloved classic and it is developed and published by Konami. With fans wanting to jump back into the world of Metal Gear, Konami decided to throw us all a bone and remake a game from the PS2 days. But was this the right title in the franchise to give a remake to? or should they have went with an even more fan favorite? Only one way to find out, so lets go!

''STOP MONKEYING AROUND!''

GAMEPLAY:

There are quite a few games back in the day of the PS2 era that defined just what made the console so special, and for now, making it the highest selling console of all time. Titles like Final Fantasy 10, GTA 3, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, Devil May Cry, God Of War.. and most of all, THE BOUNCER. What? that's not right? aww come on, you don't like Duragon? you're no fun. But on a serious note, that list could go on and on and obviously it includes the remake featured ere, Snake Eater. Originally releasing in 2004, the art style was gritty and extremely detailed with an art style that to me, felt like it heavily differed from its previous entry, Metal Gear Solid 2. But honestly, I think that worked in its favor because now going back and looking at both games side by side, I feel Snake Eater in the long term has heled up WAY more than Sons Of Liberty did and it's made even more evident in the remake of Snake Eater as well. At least, in my opinion. Honestly, if were doing real talk here, while Snake Eater is a great title in itself, I would've much preferred the original PS1 Metal Gear Solid release to get the remake treatment, I just find it WAY more iconic and I feel a ton of fans of the franchise would honestly agree with me. But hey, who knows, maybe we'll get it in the future, then its back to tapping the good ol wall to hear ''HUH, WHAT WAS THAT NOISE'', ''WHOS FOOT PRINTS ARE THESE'' and fall right back in the days of nostalgia. But alas that's a maybe for the future and for now, we need to keep our focus on the here and now with Snake Eater. Getting my thoughts out of my feelings and using logic, then Snake Eater when you think about is probably the proper choice, since this, by chronological stand point, is the origin of the actual story or rather saga, so if you start here, catch people up, then you're free to do remakes later on of the other entries so anyone can hop into them and understand just what in the heck is going on, because trust me, this franchise goes absolutely bat nuts crazy with some of the things that happens, with the most realistic thing in this entire series is Otacon peeing himself and talking about his ''anime'. So basically he's everyone that goes to anime conventions. Ok I kid I kid. In case you're wondering before I even say anything, yes this game still holds up under the reigns of Konami, even with the absence of Kojima and overall still remains faithful to what you love without ruining the core of what people love about it and nears a 1:1 remake of the game.... which to whoever you talk to, will either be something worth praising or something worth getting pissed off about, ala Final Fantasy 7 debacle. With that franchise and its remakes, you're either a purist who hates the remakes with a dying passion to the very fiber of your being, or you can be like me, long time fan since the original but HATE certain aspects of it like those DAMN PLOT GHOSTS. But I wont rant, I dont need the anger for today, but that's basically in a nutshell how fans are going to be towards this title.

What you remember and love as stated previously, stays and keeps itself intact with voice acting that you remember thats iconic, snakes nightmare experience also stays within the game, attention to detail, quality stealth, fixed controls, detailed character models, easy take downs, running your booty off from gators, its all here and new and improved which further immerses you into the world more than ever and dare I say even more than the PS2 version ever did and that's actually saying a lot. Crawling through the grass on my belly for the first time since the PS2 days never felt better or more intense, with your every movement having to be precise to give you an opening to sneak up on an enemy and performing a take down and then either hiding their body in the bushes near your location or... just do like me and take their body the newest swamp pond and toss them in to TRULY get rid of the body. Holding onto a body slows you down though when walking, so make sure before doing so that the coast is clear, then you can totally get your Dexter on like I did every time I carried a body to its new watery fate. I'd just hear the REEE AHHH REEE AHH Dexter theme in my head, and whisper to them 'Tonight is the night... and its going to happen again... and again... it has to happen''. Then toss and BYE BYE, chow down gators or crocodile friends, whatever you are, its supper time. YOU NEED BLOOD AND HES GOT MORE THAN ENOUGH. Ok I need to calm down, going from Dexter reference to Little Shop Of Horrors in the span of 10 seconds isn't exactly healthy and it signals I need to lay off the caffeine. If you're feeling home sick, then luckily for the old school player you can play with the clunkier play style from the old days and still use the original games classic control scheme if you wish, but I'd recommend against it as using the revamped modern control just feels way more fluid, responsive and brings it up to date with modern third person action games that not only improves the gameplay and its mechanics itself, but at the same time, it still feels like the same old game you love without sacrificing anything of substance. This is felt by moving way more swiftly through each new area, dodging, hiding and getting to be ''one'' with your tranquilizer because trust me, its going to be your very best friend till the end, Hidey Ho. While quickly accessing camouflage to hide more efficiently, you will need to pick and choose when and when not to take out an enemy because once enemies are alerted, its over bro, don't even try, I don't care what difficulty its set to, you're 100% dying. Although like I said previously, the game being a near 1:1 remake makes it awesome, its also a tiny bit of a headache as the story and script used kind of hurts your brain and shows a ''sign of the times'' like quality, which a lot of games tend to suffer from that are remade for the modern era. Whether its overly cheesy or just plain cringe, its hard NOT to shake your head and sigh at it. But all is not lost, while some of the dialogue does not hold up at all, the characters and plot absolutely does overall, with Boss's character arc being the main show of the entire journey the pinnacle of this entire games saga, which playing it now as someone who's older, I now tend to side with Boss more so now than I did in my younger years. Maybe I'm becoming my cynical, probably, but who cares, EVIL IS GOOD.

''YUP, IM SO DEAD''

OVERALL:

At the end of the day, Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater remains a solid remake of a classic game, in both a good and bad way. Bad ways being obviously the cringe dialogue and script being a relic of the past that could've used some updating, as well as villains being their classic ''I'm going to tell you my plot because I've already won'' trope and having them LITERALLY, and I do mean LITERALLY say word for word ''I'll explain it to you before I kill you'' before going off on a 20 minute plus tangent telling you every single plan in exact detail, which made me just want them to turn to the screen like Rick Moranis in Spaceballs and say ''Everybody got that!?''. Annoyances side with the script and character dialogues, the game does manage to improve on not only the graphic fidelity, atmosphere, controls, quick shortcuts for item, weapon and gear selection, selection between modern and classic control schemes, engaging and compelling narrative, opportunities to be a jerk to enemies by screwing with them by making noise or throwing them in ponds, etc etc, it all works so well and it just makes me want remakes of Metal Gear Solid and Sons Of Liberty even more so now. So if you have no played a Metal Gear Solid title in the past or modern day and dont know where to start, then I highly recommend picking this one up and giving it a go, even more so especially if you're a long time fan who's already played it before, it will feel like a total homecoming for you, no doubt. So with all that having been said, my verdict is clear, GameNChick says BUY NOW
