Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a cute slice of life sim that is developed and published by Sunblink. Having previously been played by millions around the world on Mobile devices, the folks at Sunblink decided now is the time to bring that cuteness to not only PC, but also to Nintendo Switch. But was it the correct decision to bring this kitty to new playgrounds or was mobile the best fit for it? only one way to find out, so lets MEOW.

''THE GANG IS ALL HERE''

GAMEPLAY:

At last the prophecy has been fulfilled, Hello Kitty Island Adventure using all the dark magic of the occult, has made this game and concept come to fruition just as Professor Chaos foretold. You thought Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a huge deal with its ''at least the promise has been made'' moniker? well that's chump levels compared to Butters fantasy game becoming reality, like it did in 2023 on Apple Arcade, albeit to that limited audience. But now here in 2025, the game finally moves to bigger platforms, such as Nintendo Switch and PC, with the title giving me strong vibes of Animal Crossing New Horizons due to its island life simulation, which is something this title implements as well just with more Hello Kitty and friends. If you know me, then you know stuff like Animal Crossing and life sims like that are my addiction.. even when its not a life sim in general but implement features of it where you can build towns, get special items to decorate, etc. Oh there's a main story that expands this game 20 hours of engaging narrative? tough crap, I'm building a house and finding milk for a parrot animal who needs it for his cereal and will give me a token I need in order to buy a new lawn chain. Yeah, I'll be seeing you in about 50 hours main story. That's the case all the time with games like that or similar ones and that theme of gathering resources, forming friendships and partaking in mood boosting activities with other cute animals, continues here in Hello Kitty, just with a big island setting you get to explore and enjoy. Here in 2025 the charm of Hello Kitty continues as you're offered a rather comforting and engaging world to explore, one that actually was bigger than I originally thought it would be. From the trailer I expected a decent little sized island to explore, similar to that found with Animal Crossing as mentioned, however here in Island Adventure, while its not gigantic, it does feel more open in a sense because not everything is crowded together in one tiny spot and feels less condensed together due to being less cramped due to the spacing of each thing to do and see on the island, which is great. Looking around the island I did notice I didn't see any DMV buildings around, which is actually a good thing. Why? well.. because chances are if they had a place where I can buy a modernized car, chances are this happy and cute island adventure would turn into a horror game really fast due to my driving...and we really dont need that. We cant mentally scar these little guys, I mean look at him, LOOK AT HIM. HES. TOO. DANG, CUTE. But cuteness aside, we have to see what we can do on this little island, dont we?

Your magical adventure into the land of meow meow and friends begins with you parachuting to tomato town, I mean, to your regular cute island and once you're there, you will be tasked to create your own avatar with a variable amount of customization abilities, similar to what you have seen in other kid centric games like My Friend Peppa Pig, and once that's all settled and you're ready for your vacation away from home, then ''this is where the fun begins'' and your fun in the sun truly takes shape. In Hello Kitty Island Adventure, the overall gameplay revolves around you as your little avatar going around the island to do quests for animal friends, gather up items for various activities and unlock new areas of the map as it expands even further, which unloads even more friends onto your lap and even more exploration and quests to be found. Hanging out with the silly Badtz was always a fun time, as well to the overly photogenic Pochacco, who just loves pictures, doesnt matter, they're super down for some pictures, like this one. Ok well maybe not THAT one, but the point still stands, they love some photos. What I am getting at with just those two small examples is that it shows that this title demonstrates a lot of personality that makes each crazy critter interaction an enjoyable and even informative event, regardless if you're up to date on all the characters from the Hello Kitty Universe - it just feels like a kids that stays family friend, but also more in dept than you'd expect due to island expansion gameplay - and it honestly makes me wish I had used Apple Arcade to try it out on mobile quite awhile ago. If only I had listened to Butters earlier on the game and not teamed up with Cartman in world of warcraft... oh well. At least I wasnt off playing Fly For Fun or something. What? you never heard of that? oh man, I don't have time to get into that one right now, but I'll just say it was such a dumbed down MMO style of game that it ran on an old default PC using a ''Family chipset'' card... REALLY low quality stuff. But were off our cute little topic now, so we best be getting back to Hello Kitty and all her friends because that's where we want to be, somewhere where everyone knows our name and our troubles are all the same. Random Cheers reference, bet you didn't expect that one did you?

The more you expand the vast island in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, the more activities you come across to do and partake in, which sets it apart from the more passive gameplay style of what you experience in a title like Animal Crossing, which is nice because it provides a bit of cover for Island Adventure to not be in the shadow of the Animal Crossing series so much, even if they do share some similarities. While you may want to sit on your butt and hang with your cute animal friends all day, because you know.. its your vacation and lap of luxury and all, but I'd suggest taking the time to do some thorough exploration because there's a whole world of adventure out there waiting for you, from new resources to collect for future use, challenges that get in your way that require problem solving and wits to solve, puzzle dungeons that offer a different variety of gameplay other than a life simulator that changes up the objective to make the world feel more seamless, photo opportunities to create new memories with your brand new friends and even mine cart adventures and .... wait a minute... mine cart? oh no.. no no no, not again, STEVE, NO!. Ugh, dang Steve, sheesh. As I was saying, with that amount of variety, the game adds just the right amount of balance to the point where nothing felt boring or underwhelming, even with a lot to do because it always feels like the more you explore, the more rewarding it is for you as the player. The amount of game tied up in this cute little Hello Kitty adventure constantly leaves you with new surprises to see, experience and be involved with that include secret haunted places to explore and underwater realms and soon as you think you've seen it all, POOF, another section of the island opens up, allowing you for even more progression, new characters, new quests, new recipes for crafting, new terrain to scavenge for items to help out fellow friends with their needs and improving your friendship with brand new friends you meet and help along the way. Its definitely one of the more comfy cozy times you can have in gaming at the moment and it really just makes you think one thing... WHY IS TUXEDO SAM SO CUTE AND WHERE CAN I GET ONE?!

''ITS TEA TIME AND YOU'RE INVITED''

OVERALL:

At the end of the day, Hello Kitty Island Adventure ends up a really fun time, albeit with some hiccups along the way with some framerate issues here and there that hinder the games performance, but besides that, with rewards around every corner, new quests opening up and new friends to meet to help, large expandable world, life simulation mechanics, variety in exploration that leads to better crafting materials and dungeons with puzzles, all of it combined makes this a great game to play if you're a fan of Hello Kitty or just life simulators in general like Animal Crossing. So if you are either one of those or want to pick it up as game to play with you and your children, this one is definitely up there in the category of a fun experience. So with all that having been said, my verdict is clear, GameNChick says BUY NOW
