''WELCOME TO BUTTFACE ISLAND''

Developed: Nintendo

Published: Nintendo

Genre: Social Simulation

Release Date:April 16th, 2026

GAME PROVIDED TO ME BY NINTENDO

Tomodachi Life Living The Dream is the latest entry into this highly praised social simulation franchise and it is developed and published by Nintendo. With the Tomodachi as series having been dormant for the last 12 years, Nintendo decided out of nowhere that it would be resurrected once more, but this time for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. However, was this a franchise in need of a revival? or has society itself moved on from this genre? Only one way to find out, so lets socialize!

''YES, I REALLY NAMED IT BUTTFACE ISLAND''

GAMEPLAY:

Oh man, raise your hand if you ever thought this franchise would return. That's right, I don't see any hands raised because none of us actually believed it would actually happen, but yet here we are, celebrating a brand new release of Tomodachi and not just a casual spin off like we have gotten in the past. Tomodachi busted onto the scene with 2009's entry Tomodachi Collection for the Nintendo DS, however that release was only for Japan, so everyone outside Japan was left looking like me at 3AM standing in front of my Microwave waiting for my Hot Pocket to heat up. We wanted a bite too after seeing what was cooking over in Japan, and we didn't have to wait TOO long, since soon after, the franchise would be released globally with Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo 3DS. Once that game hit the scene, the weirdness and hilarity took over world wide as players around the world were able to create social comedy skits that were more funny than actual comedians in the real world and even borderline overly offensive content that made you wonder how the heck did it even pass the filters. Tomodachi Life gave players unbridled creativity and became a bona-fide hit right from the start, so of course we would be seeing direct sequels to it right away too on the Wii U and even the Switch, right?... right guys?. No we wouldnt, instead we received a couple of spinoffs with Miitopia and Miitomo, with Miitopia being a lite version of Tomodachi and Miitomo being a more RPG focused title using your Mii's in an RPG setting. Okay.... thanks Nintendo? I guess. Its not what we were looking for, but they were alright I guess. After that, nothing, nadda, ziltch and it was as if Willy Wonka himself screamed at us ''YOU GET NOTHING, YOU LOSE, GOOD DAY SIR!'' because that's exactly what we did get, nothing, for TEN freaking years until this brand new entry into the series, Tomodachi Life Living The Dream. But does it live up to the wait or the hype? I don't know, I haven't finished writing this yet, as you're hearing or reading this, so give me a second, okay!?. But spoiler from the future thanks to Doc Brown helping me out, the answer to the question is both a yes and a no, which I'll explain in proper detail going forward.
Tomodachi Life Living The Dream brings back the craziness and focus on fun and social interaction that has been missing for quite some time now and if you thought the previous game was weird or over the top, then you've seen nothing yet because Living The Dream takes what was absurd in the previous entry, turns it on its head makes it even more bonkers than that, if you can believe it. In an age where the gaming market takes itself WAY too seriously with having to be the most serious and dark form of media that it can be, both in stories and graphics, Nintendo asks the profound question, ''do you guys like farts?''. I'm not making that up by the way, the developers themselves literally wanted to get the game perfect by... perfecting the way farts sound. If that's not game of the year material, then I'm not sure what is anymore to be honest. Tomodachi Life is basically Nintendo's idea towards a social experiment, if you give players freedom of choice to create scenarios for themselves, what will they do with that creative freedom? will you play with friends, family? or create your own versions of other video game characters to interact, play with and socialize with? it really doesn't matter because you can pretty much create anything your heart is set on, just as long as you're good at editing a Mii. Yes, you can even make a Mii that has a butt for a face and make him or her the leader of Buttface Island, where he's king or queen of the farts...and again, I'm not even joking. Whatever your weird mind thinks up, it almost certainly become reality here in Living The Dream, for better or for worse for us as society and humanity in general. So build your town up with Mii's and mess with your face, body, personality customization and what voice you want to use because you're in for a very weird ride. If you're new to the series then you'll probably be weirded out by the strange robotic voice that all characters use that you'd normally hear in a really outdated text to speech type of AI response on a website or phone, but that's what makes it so much funnier. Hearing these monotone voices go from mundane speaking to high pitched voices and talking about whatever you set it up for them to say, mixed alongside their facial expressions, is just too dang funny and makes every Mii you personally create or interact with a truly unique experience. This is what Living The Dream personifies in spades, for every island you create, it will be different than that of anyone else's island due to the way you create said island and what characters you make that inhabit it, such as me creating Buttface island as stated before. But as stated before too, if you can't think of a new character yourself, such as faces with butts on them, you can just create stuff based off Mario, Zelda, other Nintendo IP's, whatever your heart is set on, and whoever inhabits your Island, will all have their own little story scenarios or problems to solve, which either end up with extremely funny conversations between you and another Mii, or watching two other Mii's interact with each other where even more random scenarios come into play, whether you're 10 hours into it or even 20 hours, the sheer amount of comedic value continues to entertain alongside your own creativity.

Although hilarity is the name of the game here in Living The Dream, after awhile, there are only so many inputs the game is allowed to maintain for your Mii's and island because after awhile, you start getting a repeat of scenarios and dialogue which may damper the experience for people that look to log into their island every day just to see what the heck is going on with all your friends. It can become tedious if you don't take time to add custom text lines to your Mii's to continue their growth with unique and influenced conversations that they can have together as you continue to grow the size of your island. Mention an incident, a celebrity or whatever topic you want to your Mii friends and soon you'll be seeing them talk about that same subject, but to each other, and if you're immature as me, you can talk about what types of farts are best to unleash and which are more safe for your pants. I know that's bottom barrel of immaturity overall, but I don't care, farts are funny!. The experience can still remain tedious overall if you aren't on top of custom text, but even so, the way each Mii has potential to mad-lib to the point where they seem like they're a real player inside your island with some of the dialogue they make up, so as a reward to them in helping keeping you entertained, you must social engineer an environment on your island that keeps everyone happy and lively. Its actually very easy to keep them happy because they're almost the same as me in that aspect, give them food and gifts and they stay happy. Just like if I'm mad or even sad, put some food near me or buy me a new game and everything else is out of sight out mind... which when putting it that way, I'm basically just a child trapped in the mind of a teenager that's trapped in the body of someone that's over 30 years old, which makes me just as weird and as much of an anomaly as the Mii characters in Living The Dream, so... am I a Mii? am I a creation? am I a text to voice simulation trapped in a Matrix?. No, but its probably close to that. When you aren't creating funny dialogue or spying on your Mii's to see what they say next, you can fulfill their needs that they have as they live on your island by playing games with them like playing good ol playground games like Red Light Green Light, food discovering and naming, flipping coins and SKIPPING STONES... what? no Splinter, were not skipping stones, go back to your cheesy and terrible live action concert, we don't need you here bro. Anyways, what was I saying?. While not as extensive as other multiplayer mini games, they're still break aways from any tedium you might experience otherwise. The more Mii's you make happy, the more features will be unlocked such as new quirks, situational conversations and brand new activities for Mii's to partake in, alongside new clothes to dress everyone up in to make them look more like a character you're trying to create and emulate.

''ALL HAIL KING BOBBY!''

OVERALL:

At the end of the day Tomodachi Life Living The Dream lives up to its own hype after a long hiatus, but with downsides to go along with it too. The main downside here being the inability to share Mii's to others. See something funny? create something hilarious? you cant share that with others even via in-game screenshots and videos or even QR codes, its just not possible. With a game thats built on social interactivity and viral moments, that's a really weird decision and a big head scratcher. It's probably a legal issue I'm sure, but still, its a bit of a disappointment to say the east. A smaller gripe is that it can feel a bit tedious if you don't use custom text often, so you'll be hit with a lot of repeat conversations if you don't stay on top of it which may ruin the fun immersion you have going, etc. Having said that, with tons of ways to create amazing dialogue via the funny text to speech mechanic, play mini games with your Mii's as you grow and expand your island, create Mii's based off new concepts, yourself and even other characters and celebrities, taking Mii's on road trips for awesome selfie material using real world backdrops and the off the wall comedic timing of everything weird that goes on all the time, just makes this game a blast to play in any scenario, whether its spending 3 to 4 hours at time in it or just in short pick up and play sessions, however you choose the play, you'll find more than enough to keep you entertained and laughing for many hours. So with all that having been said, my verdict is clear, GameNChick says BUY NOW
